I had just, rather rashly, quit my job. I had hit my breaking point. I simply could not go make another sales call to illustrate the benefits of online marketing to another small business owner, who started their business as a desperate ploy to save their retirement.
There had to be a better way. And there it was, staring me right in the face: a job posting for a Financial Advisor.
I didn't meet any of the qualification requirements.
So, I started looking for jobs that would give me the qualifications I needed to become a Financial Advisor.
Enter stage right, a job at the bank. I spent the next 2 years working at the bank, helping clients with their money, but I wasn't solving the problem of people being one calamity away from not being able to retire.
A good friend of mine referred me to a position at Wells Fargo Advisors. I applied, interviewed, & began my professional journey into the wonderful world of wealth management.
A few years in, a recruiter contacted me about a position with a boutique investment firm which included working with families to plan their retirement and taking care of the business administration. I jumped at the opportunity.
To excel, I needed to specialize. I needed to focus specifically on what I had set out to achieve: gaining expertise and proficiency in helping people manage their money. As they say, "Jack of all trades, master of none." So, I made the move to Merrill as a Financial Advisor.
Yet, all that time, I felt like there were a few things missing...
During my time with the boutique investment firm, I spent time looking into where the industry was going so we could keep up with the times. I wanted to take the leap then, yet talked myself out of it... #harshestcritic.
The COVID-19 Pandemic was eye-opening for me and I couldn't go back to the hustle & grind culture where I wasn't actually having an impact on closing the wealth gap. By working in wealth management, I was perpetuating the oppression that separates the privileged few and the rest of us.
And that's how Sol Spyre came to be.
